Hello
My passion for travel, wandering, and cultural photography was sparked in childhood, but fully emerged after retirement from an amazing arts administration career.

I aim to capture the extraordinary in the ordinary, finding and sharing beauty in things we might walk past every day but often fail to notice.
My favorite images include landscapes, seascapes, buildings, people, flowers, and animals that capture the essence of a country or region, telling a compelling story about how people live.
Beginning in 2017, I took photographs of my travels and posted many on social media. Much to my surprise, in 2020, I received an invitation to exhibit my Jamaican photographs in a gallery. I jumped on the opportunity and taught myself about printing, framing, and exhibiting work.
Initially, my images were primarily landscapes, seascapes and buildings. Later, after receiving an Emerging Artist Fellowship and exhibiting my Jamaican work in more places, I began to focus on expanding the variety of locations and including people and images that conveyed the stories of how they live – at home, at work, at play, and out in the world.
Whether it is a brother helping his sister get to the church on time for her wedding in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, or fortune tellers in a square in Cuba, my images aim to show that despite differences in lifestyle, wealth, customs, and traditions, we are all human and share basic values, needs, and desires.
Going beyond the usual tourist destinations allows me to meet and photograph people and their surroundings in a way that hopefully conveys understanding, empathy and love of humanity.
I learned about photography early, from my father who was an amateur photographer with a darkroom set up in the bathroom. In college, as a journalism major/dance minor, I got a refresher on cameras, darkroom processes, and the elements of interesting photographs, especially as related to photojournalism.
Most of my photos now are captured with a high-quality cell phone camera. Cell phone cameras have improved so much in recent years. I prefer them as I can quickly capture interesting moments. In addition, cell phones are commonplace around the world, and they are less intrusive when photographing people in their natural habitats.
My photographs capture what my heart sees and feels.
